- Click the sentence and listen.
- Repeat it out loud.
- Hide English.
- Hide pinyin.
- Try to read the Hanzi only.
The goal is not suffering. The goal is to stop treating pinyin like life support.
When to keep pinyin visible
Keep pinyin visible when the phrase is new, the tone pattern is difficult, or you are comparing similar words like 会, 能, and 可以.
When to hide it
Hide pinyin after the phrase feels familiar. If you can hear and understand it but cannot read it, your listening is ahead of your character recognition. That is normal. Now train the weak link.
